Three Paths to Reading
Statements with Confidence
Each Statmint program is a self-contained learning experience — structured, facilitated where appropriate, and focused on building reading skill rather than passive familiarity with accounting concepts.
Back to HomepageHow Statmint Teaches
Document as Starting Point
Every module begins with a sample statement, not a slide deck. Learners encounter the document before the theory, which mirrors how understanding actually develops.
Annotation as Explanation
Rather than separating text from document, the materials annotate directly — so learners see the explanation in the context where it matters.
Practice on Clean Versions
After annotated reading, learners work through the same or similar documents without annotations — applying what they have absorbed before moving to the next section.
Understanding Statements Starter Course
A self-paced introduction to the three common financial statements — income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows. Each is introduced through annotated samples with plain-language explanations of what each section shows and why it is structured that way. Aimed at beginners and small-business owners who want a solid starting point. All content is general and educational — not advice for any individual's financial situation.
- Annotated income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow samples
- Common line-item vocabulary with plain-language definitions
- Practice exercises with unannotated document versions
- Module summaries and suggested questions to bring to your accountant
How It Works
Enrol and receive access to Module 1 — Introduction to the Income Statement
Work through annotated samples at your own pace, completing each practice exercise before moving forward
Modules 2 and 3 cover the balance sheet and cash flow statement on the same format
Final reading exercise uses a combined statement set — putting all three together
Reading the Numbers Workshop
A structured group workshop that builds on foundational statement reading to focus on interpretation — what the numbers might suggest, how common ratios are described and used conceptually, and what kinds of questions a reader should be equipped to ask. Each session is facilitated with worksheets and group discussion. The workshop does not provide financial advice; it equips learners with the context to have better conversations with their own advisors.
- Five weekly facilitated sessions with worksheets
- Conceptual ratio overview — what each ratio measures and why
- Small-group discussion format for shared learning
- Facilitated Q&A at the close of each session
Session Structure
Session 1: Reviewing the three statements together — connections and context
Sessions 2–3: Common terminology and ratio concepts through worksheets
Session 4: Group reading of a combined sample — annotated discussion
Session 5: Questions to bring your accountant — practical consolidation
